(Jan 2025)
My influences are a lot of the folk and jazz icons I listened to on my parents’ vinyl record player. I think Breakfast in America was maybe the first album I owned. I bought a guitar from a fellow Peace Corps volunteer while in Ouidah, Benin, traveling all over with it until I found a new home for it in Split, Croatia. There’s probably a story.
Anyway, at some point, much later, I started going to open mic in Seattle and performing a few standards. Then, later, I started writing my own songs, and was performing weekly on zoom sessions during COVID19 when many venues were closed. After returning to in person, I’ve continued to write and play guitar.
My favorite part of this has been hearing how some of the lyrics of my songs resonate with people. My songs come from a sense of urgency in addressing the climate crisis. There should be like a genre or a movement to bring people to the emotional point needed for action – i.e. not paralysis.
I’m inspired by extended family members and friends who’ve put out full albums. There’s no time like the present. I hope you’ll enjoy.
My EP is out soon…
